The group says it attacked the Shell
Forçados pipeline after warning the company not to repair it
According to the group’s Twitter
account, the Niger Delta Avengers had warned Shell against repairing the damage
installation but its threats went unheeded. The pipeline is operated by Shell
however, the Nigerian Petroleum Development Company, a subsidiary of the Nigerian
National Petroleum Corporation, owns it. When confirming its attack on the

After carrying out the attacks, the
militants issued a warning that it will reduce oil production throughout
Nigeria to zero. The avengers had caused a political furore earlier this week
after threatening to assassinate President Muhammadu Buhari if he visited
Ogoniland to launch a cleanup operation. The president subsequently decided not
to visit Ogoniland in light of the security risks.
